Checking In At 20

Friday 7th of August 2015

“You’re not gonna make Apocalypse Now if you’re playing in like, Bon Jovi, or whatever”

I came across this short documentary last night courtesy of Pitchfork TV and I thought it was well worth a share. It looks at two of the most iconoclastic drummers of the last two decades from two of indie rocks most progressive bands. Greg Saunier from Deerhoof and Brian Chippendale from Lightning Bolt have continued to push the envelope since their respective bands formations in 1994. With over 20 years in the game, this documentary looks at their approach and philosophy towards the drum kit and features interviews from Wayne Coyne & Stephen Drozd from The Flaming Lips, John Dwyer from Thee Oh Sees, Tim Harrington from Les Savy Fav and more.Check out the documentary below.

*It should also be noted that only at the end of this video when the directors name popped up I realised that this was made by Matt Conboy from Death By Audio. Not sure if they have more things along these lines coming up down the track but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled.
