Established in the 1925 as a manufacturer of accordions, Hagstrom also has a long history of building guitars. Production of acoustic steel string and classical guitars dates back as early as the 1940's. In 1958, the first Hagstrom electric guitars were built. In its current form, the Hagstrom manufacturing team searches the world to find the best raw materials and hardware and then supplies their manufacturing partners with the detailed specifications and guidance necessary to authentically re-create Hagstrom's classic models.
Models such as the Viking, Condor, Impala and HII have found their way into the hands of musicians such as Tame Impala, Foo Fighters, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Eagles of Death Metal and Frightened Rabbit. Both Hagstroms solid body guitars, like those found in the Retroscape Series, as well as their hollow body models have been spotted in the arsenals of Echo and the Bunnymen, Millencolin, Taking Back Sunday, School of Seven Bells, David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails.
