Back in 1987 David Klavins introduced the Modell 370, the worlds largest piano which sits at 12 feet high and requires a second story to seat the player. There have been numerous recordings using the piano, the most recent of which is German musician Nils Frahm’s new album “-solo-“. Nils spent four days at the location of the 800kg upright piano, improvising 9 hours of material that would eventually make up the 43 minute album.Coinciding with the release of “-solo-” Nils has dubbed March 29 ‘Piano Day’, in which he has set up a website (pianoday.org) to help raise money for Klavins dream piano: a new 15 foot piano called the Modell 450. If all goes according to plan then Klavins will release the new piano on Piano Day 2017. Check out the video below.
