The Maton 75th Anniversary Diamond Edition Acoustic Guitar celebrates 75 years of continuous guitar production in Melbourne, Australia, and showcases the best design and construction Maton can bring to a guitar while celebrating the best Australian tonewoods.
Maton have recently been exploring new guitar shapes, materials and specifications, driven by Maton Custom Shop luthier, Andy Allen. Many recent production models benefitted from that work and the Maton 75th Anniversary Diamond Edition Acoustic Guitar showcases this. The Traditional body shape, at 502mm long and 390mm wide, is longer and wider than Maton’s 808 shape but still smaller than a Dreadnought, so its tone sits between the big sound of a Dreadnought and the brighter, focussed sound of their 808.
The Maton 75th Anniversary Diamond Edition Acoustic Guitar features a “AAA” Sitka Spruce soundboard and has a vintage amber sunburst. It provides the subtle overtones and fast dynamic response one expects from the best steel string acoustic guitars. The fingerboard and bridge are “A” grade ebony which is perfectly stable and tonally responsive thanks to advanced drying technology. The look, sound and feel of ebony works beautifully in conjunction with the Queensland Maple neck and “A” grade Victorian Blackwood back and sides. The whole guitar is finished in Maton’s UV gloss finish, which pulls all the pieces together aesthetically and is super thin, which lets the guitar shine tonally from its very first strum.
Queensland Maple and Victorian Blackwood is at the centre of Maton guitar making. Queensland Maple has been there since the very beginning in 1946. Sustainably harvested in Queensland and their home state of Victoria, they both have unique and beautiful tones. Maton has known this for years and the rest of the guitar world are now discovering for themselves. It was obvious to incorporate these woods in the Maton 75th Anniversary Diamond Edition Acoustic Guitar.
